uPVC Door Comparison

uPVC Door Comparison

uPVC doors can be classified according to their opening type (swing doors, sliding doors, folding doors), or according to their purpose. Below is a description of various uPVC door types, including their pluses and minuses.

uPVC Door Opening Possibilities

uPVC doors can have different opening mechanisms. Four major types are outlined below.

  • uPVC swing doors,
  • uPVC tilt ant turn doors,
  • uPVC sliding doors,
  • uPVC folding doors.

uPVC swing doors are the standard hinged uPVC doors, either single panel or double panel (known as French doors). They swing open, either inwards or outwards, depending on the chosen type; no additional ventilation options are included. This is a common option for interior uPVC doors and exterior uPVC doors, both front doors and back doors. Swing uPVC doors are durable and need almost no maintenance.
uPVC tilt and turn doors have three opening positions: tilt for ventilation, swing open for passage, and night vent. This type of uPVC doors is convenient when the room has no operable windows; tilt and turn uPVC doors can be used for both air ventilation and access. This is a popular choice for balconies and patios. However, tilt and turn uPVC doors are less durable compared to the regular swing type uPVC doors. Tilt and turn uPVC doors open inwards as standard.
uPVC sliding doors are usually made of two panels, one sliding over the other in parallel. This is very useful in small rooms, as sliding uPVC doors take no extra space when opened. Sliding uPVC doors come in different sizes and can be quite wide, due to their reinforced uPVC profiles. This allows for large glazing units, which will provide much natural light and broad views into the outside. Sliding uPVC doors are often chosen as patio doors, balcony doors, garden doors, etc. They are easy to operate and quiet. Most uPVC sliding doors can be stopped and locked in any opening position.
uPVC folding doors are gaining popularity in many countries. They are made of two or more uPVC door panels connected to each other. Folding uPVC doors open by folding one by the other in a manner similar to the accordion. This allows to save space and to open a wide area all at once. Folding uPVC doors can be very wide if needed, so that to make an impressive connection of the inside with the outside. Folding uPVC doors are often used as an exit to a patio or garden. They add aesthetic value to your home.

uPVC Interior Doors

uPVC interior doors are used as passage doors inside public or commercial buildings, as well as in residential houses. They are cheap, durable and maintenance-free. Usually two types of uPVC doors are used as interior doors:

  • uPVC swing doors,
  • uPVC sliding doors.

The main function of interior uPVC doors is to give privacy and reduce noise, so they are made of high-quality uPVC profile with double or triple glazing inserts. uPVC door glazing can be chosen from various clear and decorative glass options.
