Roller Shutter Measurements

Roller Shutter Measurements

Roller Shutter Measurements in the Price Calculator

In order to calculate the price of roller shutters, please enter the following:

  • measurements in millimetres (height * width)

Limitations for height and width are given below the input boxes. After you enter the required roller shutter measurements, you will see the price of a standard roller shutter of your choice. Later you can change the specifications of roller shutters by using different options shown in the price calculator, and see the price difference.
Note:
Below is an instruction of how to measure roller shutters. You can either measure on your own, or call a specialist to take measurements for you. If you need information on non-standard sized roller shutters or wish a specialist to take the measurements for you, please contact our staff. Send us an e-mail

Importance of Roller Shutter Measurements

Roller shutter measurements should be taken precisely, in order to cover the window or door completely and avoid possible problems in the future. It is highly recommended to call a specialist to take the measurements for you, because errors made during measuring cannot be corrected. If you decide to measure roller shutter on your own, below are some guidelines how to measure roller shutters.

Roller Shutter Measuring Guide

Roller shutter measurements depend on the place of installation. Decide where you want to install roller shutters, and choose between recess fitting (1) and surface fitting (2).
1.  Recess fitting. Roller shutters are installed on the window or door frame below a lintel. Roller shutters are fitted inside the recess, so the whole construction, including shutter box and guide rails must fit inside this recess. Measure the height and width of the opening, taking the window or door frame as your reference point. Measure several times and note down the smallest distance in millimetres. These will be the final measurements that you need to enter in the price calculator. If roller shutters are operated manually (strap control, or strap and crank control), make sure that it is possible to drill a hole in the frame, to trace the strap to the interior side of the room. The hole is drilled 15 mm away from the reveal. In the draft you should also mark the place where the roller shutter control mechanism is located, either on the left or on the right (viewed from the inside). Additionally, plan the location of the control plate inside the room.
2.  Surface fitting. Roller shutters are installed on the wall above the window or door opening. Measure the height and width of the opening. Measure several times and note down the biggest measurements in millimetres. Now you have to add the space necessary for guide rails and shutter box. The size of guide rails and shutter box differ depending on the size of the roller shutter, so they may be different in each individual case. Domestic roller shutters typically need the following additions:

Roller shutter height: opening height + 200 mm
Roller shutter width: opening width + 150 mm.

Note also the side of roller shutter control mechanism, whether on the left or on the right side (viewed from the inside), and the location of the control plate inside the room. When roller shutters are installed over doors, it is necessary to ensure that door handles and other accessories will not hinder the operation of roller shutters. If necessary, metal pack outs can be installed to distance the shutter from the surface of the door.
