Aluminium Door Profile Prices

Aluminium doors are made of high quality insulated aluminium profiles, and therefore they have high prices compared to other door types. However, this pays back in time, as aluminium doors are tough and durable, their service life is longer, and they need less maintenance (and consequently less additional expense) compared to other types of doors. Thermally broken aluminium profiles ensure high levels of thermal insulation and help reduce heating bills.

Aluminium Door Profile Types

Aluminium profiles are used to make the frame and sash of aluminium doors. There is a variety of aluminium profiles now available; they differ in their width and internal structure, and in the materials used. Below are descriptions of three types of aluminium profiles. Regular aluminium profiles feature no thermal break. This means that the aluminium profile is continuous and there is a direct contact between the interior and exterior parts of the aluminium door frame. Like most metals, aluminium transfers heat quickly: in winter, such door frames will cause thermal leaks and a drop in room temperature. For this reason, regular aluminium profiles are recommended for interior applications only, or when thermal insulation is not important, e.g. in non-residential premises. Aluminium profiles with no thermal break are narrower compared to other aluminium profiles: typically they are 45 mm to 51 mm thick. Such aluminium doors can be glazed with a single sheet of glass, or with an insulated glass unit. Glass type can be chosen from several options, including clear float glass, frosted glass, safety glass, and decorative glass. This is the cheapest option of aluminium doors. Aluminium profiles without the thermal break can be used for making aluminium windows, interior doors and interior partitions.
Thermally broken aluminium profiles have a thermal break, which makes them suitable for windows and doors in residential buildings. Thermally broken aluminium profiles are originally made as two separate parts, interior and exterior. During the manufacturing process, these two parts are joined together with an insert made of another material—this insert is called thermal break. Under normal conditions, aluminium transfers heat quickly, but with the thermal break this thermal leak is stopped. For this reason, thermally broken aluminium profiles have lower U values and therefore insulate better. Depending on the material used for the thermal break, it is possible to achieve higher sound insulation as well. Thermally broken aluminium profiles usually are 50 mm to 75 mm thick. Double glazing and triple glazing can be used, with glass units up to 61 mm width. If necessary, aluminium doors can be glazed using a single sheet of glass. Thermally broken aluminium profiles are widely used for aluminium windows, aluminium doors and partitions. This is the only type of aluminium profile available in the price calculator.
Curtain walls. Aluminium profiles are light and strong, so they are ideal for large curtain walls or facades. The huge selection of aluminium profiles and joinery helps achieve various design aims. Aluminium profiles are capable of bearing heavier loads, so it is possible to use large glass units while at the same time retaining slim profile lines. Aluminium Door Profile Specifications

Aluminium door profiles influence the overall performance of aluminium doors. Aspects such as internal structure and thermal breaks define the thermal characteristics and durability of aluminium doors, and should be considered before buying new doors. Below are descriptions of some of the most important specifications of aluminium profiles.
Profile width. Aluminium profiles come in different widths; wider profiles are generally better at insulating heat. Profile width determines the width of the glazing that can be used. If you are building a passive house and need thick glass units, you will also need wider aluminium profiles.
Number of chambers. In order to achieve better thermal properties, aluminium profiles are divided into sections or chambers, just like PVC profiles. Air chambers serve as barriers which help reduce thermal loss. Aluminium doors are usually manufactured with one, two or three-chamber system. Thermal break. Aluminium is a metal and therefore a poor heat insulator. In winter the frames will be cold to the touch, while in summer they will be hot. In order to improve the thermal performance of aluminium doors, a thermal break is used. Thermal break separates the interior and exterior sides of aluminium profile and stops the heat loss. It is recommended to choose the widest possible thermal breaks, because this means a better thermal insulation. Thermal breaks are usually made of polyamide, which may be strengthened with glass fibre. The thermal break can also have its own air chambers. In order to further improve the thermal features of aluminium profiles, the thermal break may be filled with an insulating material such as foam. Thermal breaks are usually 16 mm to 36 mm wide.
Gaskets. Aluminium doors are sealed using soft gaskets, which are usually made of synthetic rubber EPDM. Gaskets are inserted into special grooves in the aluminium profiles. Gaskets are used to seal the gap between aluminium frame and leaf: when the door is closed, the gasket is pressed and ensures weather tightness around the aluminium door perimeter. Gaskets are also used to separate the profile and the glazing, and stops humidity from entering under the glass unit.
Design. Aluminium door profiles can be manufactured according to your individual preferences. When carrying out a renovation project, you can choose aluminium profiles that imitate the required material. For example, some manufacturers offer aluminium profiles that mimic the curved lines of the old wooden doors. There are also steel-imitating aluminium doors. Hide
